Girona Cycling Retreat

7-Night Sample Itinerary.

Day 0 — Arrival & welcome

Guests arrive to Girona airport/Barcelona (transfer included if pre-booked) and check in to a 4★ hotel in Girona or close to Rocacorba (hand-picked options include Hotel Nord 1901, Hotel Gran Ultonia or Hotel Palau Fugit). Welcome pack in the room (route maps, local tips, nutrition overview). Evening welcome meeting with the guide and the Atelier team: bike fitting checks, skill/ability questionnaire and menu choices for dinners. 

Day 1 — Easy shake-out & Girona culture 

Morning: short guided ride on gentle lanes to stretch legs and dial in Canyon setups (flat to rolling, coffee stop).

Afternoon: guided cultural walk of Girona Old Town — the Cathedral, the Jewish quarter (El Call) and a stroll along the Onyar river. Evening: group dinner at a local restaurant showcasing Catalan cuisine (based on season).

Day 2 — Classic Rocacorba loop 

Full-day ride that includes the famous Rocacorba climb plus quieter surrounding cols and an epic quiet descent back to Banyoles. Cue sheets and GPS files provided. Finish with a locally sourced recovery meal and aperitif. The Rocacorba climb is a demanding 9–10 km ascent with sustained gradients — a must-ride for Girona visitors. 

Day 3 — Recovery / alternative gravel or coastal option 

Option A: recovery spin around Lake Banyoles with a long café stop and optional open-water swim / cafe lunch.

Option B: guided gravel loop for a mixed-terrain experience (Rocacorba Atelier’s gravel fleet and routes available). Afternoon free for massages, laundry, or exploring Girona shops.

Day 4 — Epic inland loop 

A full-day epic across lesser-known rolling road that local guides prize for silky tarmac and low traffic. Riders can choose shorter cutbacks if the weather or legs dictate. Lunch at a carefully chosen country restaurant (terrace, Catalan seasonal menu).

Day 5 — Backroads day 

Catalans are super proud to know the best 'local backroads' and spend hours and hours discovering new ones. Our local guides have built and will keep adapting the best of the best, put into this loop you will never find on a StravEvening: group dinner at a standout Girona restaurant (option to pre-book a tasting menu).

Day 6 — Choice ride & farewell

Final morning: choose a short “signature” loop (a flattering scenic route for photos) or a final challenge for those chasing numbers. Afternoon debrief, bike return and light send-off tapas before hotel checkout the following morning.

Day 8 — Departures

Transfers to airport or onward arrangements. Optional extra nights available on request.

Logistics & Service Details

• Group size & guides: standard group = up to 8 riders per guide. Larger groups split into pods with matched abilities. 

• Bikes: Canyon road bikes (full size range). Helmets, GPS units and lights available. All bikes fully tuned and fitted before first ride. 

• Nutrition: pre-ride bar or porridge option, mid-ride feed stations (bars/gels/bananas), post-ride recovery snack & electrolyte drink. Special dietary needs catered for with advance notice.

• Safety & support: guide carries a toolkit, spare wheels, and basic first aid. Mechanical support for the group; local workshop access for anything bigger. 

• Tailoring: each ride is offered in 2–3 pace groups (relaxed / steady / performance). The guide will refine routes to suit the weather and group energy on the day.

Local restaurants & hospitality

Girona’s food scene ranges from exceptional bistro fare to internationally celebrated kitchens — perfect for post-ride meals and culinary experiences. The itinerary includes at least three carefully chosen dinners (hotel dinner, a countryside restaurant and a celebratory tasting menu). If clients request, the team can book high-end dining (Girona is home to world-class restaurants).

Please note the rate shown is a per person rate and is an indicative rate. Minimum group size is 6 riders to book a custom trip with us. Exact price will be determined based on hotels, culinary requirements and extra services required.
